History
Kokunkokun's history is short, but my web designing history is a jumbled mess. Allow me to start at the beginning. Originally my web designing abilities were limited to simple table designs I made on the since-closed Teen Open Diary. I knew very little about what I was doing, basically stealing code and altering it until it suited my purpose. I didn't understand about bandwidth and direct linking--sort of an "Everyone else is doing it, why can't I?" kind of thing. Once Teen Open Diary was closed down, I opened a site on GeoCities to house my writing portfolio. Looking back, it was hideous. The index page had a very basic table, a dark image above a list of my writing, all on a white background with dark blue font, while each page used a template provided by GeoCities. Gross. Needless to say, it was quickly neglected. I moved to Bravenet, running Stubborn Aethetics, a beautiful name for a very lame site. Stubborn Aesthetics was home to a few crappy wallpapers and even worse avatars. I was still trying to get the hang of designing, and my two div layouts that the site sported were less than impressive, although I was still a novice. I became frustrated that Bravenet's banner ads would repeatedly [but not consistently] cover parts of my layouts, so I closed Stubborn Aethetics and moved to Freewebs, where I opened Kugatsu Damashi with a staff of five other girls. I learned to code IFrames, since Freewebs didn't support PHP [or CSS, unfortunately, meaning all my stylesheets were hosted at Bravenet]. Kugatsu Damashi was my pride and joy, but since neither I nor my staff had internet access over the summer, we wound up on a four-month-long hiatus. When we came back, ready to update, our visitors seemed to have vanished. We started a contest in hopes of renewing interest in our site, but there were no entries, even after extending the deadline by an extra month. I decided it was time to close up shop and head out on my own, since my staff had seemed to lose interest in web design. My visitors said nothing, rubbing salt in an open wound. I applied for hosting at Faded-Chimera.net and was accepted by the fabulous Nora. Hopefully this time around my site won't fall to pieces. I appreciate your visit and hope you continue to frequent my site!
The Name
Kokunkokun means drinking deeply in Japanese. I really like the idea of drinking things in, not just absorbing, but consuming and digesting and generally becoming better for it. Hopefully you will drink deeply of my works and become better for it.
