Version 9: Summer Fun

This table layout has a fun, light feel to it--very appropriate for summer, expecially after July's layout. The characters featured are a girl from the Cotton Garland artbook found at the Celestial Star gallery and Kururu from the series Bottle Fairy in the gallery at Anime Project Alliance. The texture was also from Celestial Star and the brush was from AnimeShare.

Important Note

For new visitors and those of you who've just forgotten: I have tons of new content that I can't really upload yet because the files are just too large for my lame dial-up connection to upload in under an hour. This means that while I might mention new content, it won't necessarily be here right away. Sorry. But September is coming--slowly but surely--and once I'm back at school I'll be able to get all of my big files uploaded, like PNGs, desktop icon sets, and wallpapers. In the meantime, I hope you'll be content with new avatars from me--and don't forget to visit my affiliates and link exchanges for their new content as well!

Recent Updates

Yay, August!

[Edit] The It Takes Two Collaboration is finally over! Needless to say I did not win. I did not get second place. Or third. Or an honorable mention. So sad. Oh well. I'll have the participation award up by next month. [/Edit]

Finally the summer's winding down! I'm sure this is depressing for everyone else, but not for me! September means school, which means free and speedy internet, classes with my friends, being closer to Kyle, and [best of all] AUTUMN! Fall is totally my favorite season because everything's orange and red and yellow and pretty, the weather starts to cool off, and the nights get longer--okay, also my birthday is next month, haha. But August's not too bad. Here's a quick glance at the month:

  • 1 August: New moon
  • 3 August: Friendship Day Not that this really means anything to me, but it is also the day I will be sending out tournament theme number seven
  • 16 August: Full moon
  • 17 August: Tournament theme number eight For anyone keeping score at home, this is the last theme of the tournament, even though the final deadline isn't for another twenty days--but I think the extra time will come in handy for anyone who fell behind
  • 30 August: New moon Full cycle. Woohoo!
  • 31 August: Move-in Day I'm not 100% certain about this, actually, but I typically move back in to school during Labor Day weekend, so if it's not this day it'll be the day before. I love being so close to graduation, but I hate that I have to wait forever to move back in.

Maybe this is why August is my least-favorite month: nothing ever happens, haha.

So how has everyone's summer been so far? Mine has kind of sucked, to be honest. No employment, no friends, nothing to do...ugh. The highlights have been finishing another year of school [May], Grams going to Spain and Kyle coming to visit me in June--even if it wasn't a long enough visit for me--and the New York trip [July]. The other thing that wasn't so bad was that I got to dogsit for my mom when she went to the beach, so Toby came to stay with me. He's a good boy, except that he sheds all over everything, and his two favorite places to sleep are on couches [at my house, no one sits on them, but his hair is everywhere] and on beds [if it's not my bed, it's Grams' bed, and she'd just washed her sheets before she left for Spain]. Yikes.

So this year was the last year we're having our annual trip to New York. Every year since I graduated, Grams has taken me, my sister, and two of my cousins to New York City for the day to shop and see a show. The third year we invited another cousin and went back to the city a few weeks after the trip to stay the night with a friend of the family. This year, though, since one cousin just had a baby, she couldn't come. Rather than keep our numbers down, Grams invited another one of my sisters [I have five] to come along. We stayed overnight in the Roosevelt Hotel, ate at an amazing Greek restaurant on Friday night called Ammos, and saw Phantom of the Opera on Saturday. It was okay, but it was so damn hot! And the sister that was invited this year wanted to pretend she was a city girl and gave us an attitude for bringing a map along [Grams is terrified of getting lost in the city] and insisted we take the subway from Chinatown to Fifth Avenue so we could go to Saks. I would like to point out that this sister has lived in suburbs her entire life, but whatever, she thinks she knows best. Frustration.

But I guess with every bad thing that happens, there's something good, because after I came home from New York, I got to go to my mom's and use her broadband internet and then hang out with Kyle a couple of days later. That cheered me up quite a bit. He and I went to see Hellboy 2, which was good but not as good as the first. There was a torrential downpour, though, when we were getting ready to head out to my car--like we thought the movie theater was completely underwater. It was rough. It let up on the way to his house, but it got worse when I was heading home [a two-hour car ride became a three-hour car ride]. It was worth it, though, to get to see him.

So, since I uploaded a ton of PNGs at my mom's, there's some new content, but it's getting stale. There's a new avatar that I used as part of my bundle in Deadly Nightshade's Two Worlds contest--you'll find it under Gunslinger Girl--and one of each Moetan and Magna Carta avatars. There's also a new D.N.Angel avatar that was part of my original Two Worlds bundle, but since Pup from Chasing Infinity submitted her D.N.Angel bundle before I did, I decided to switch to Gunslinger Girl. I'm glad I did--I like my Gunslinger Girl layout better, although I think my D.N.Angel wallpaper was cooler. It was kind of hard for me to make a wallpaper that could demonstrate both sides of Henrietta's personality [innocent and deadly], since my resources were kind of limited, but it's still pretty good.

Next month's layout, though...I am so excited for it! It's amazing, and you know I don't usually disclose what's coming, but here are some things to look forward to:

  • New Navigation: Yes, I revamped the navigation. There are three new pages. Also the navigation will be in a completely new spot, but no image maps.
  • New Colors: Especially after this month's bright and kind of garish colors, haha. But really, shades that I would probably never use otherwise.
  • New Calendar: Not like I'm making it downloadable, but it'll be there longer than one entry but not the entire month...actually, that's kind of a lie. You'll see what I mean soon enough.
  • New CSS: It actually didn't work out nearly as nicely as I had wanted, but it still looks pretty neat and turned out to be a lot simpler than what I was going for--hurray!
  • New Content: This is probably the most exciting part of all. And I don't just mean new content that comes with me finally having fast internet and a decent FTP connection, but I mean new content on some of those new pages I talked about.

Hurray, right? I'm so stoked. I've been so bored this summer...I actually have layouts ready and coded for the rest of the year. Seriously. I'm probably the only one who's already designed my December layout, and I'm sure I'll start at least brainstorming for the January layout before I'm back at school, haha.

Oh my god, funny story that actually really skeeved me out at the time. Since I don't work, I have had the opportunity to go to the library every day and use their free internet. Of course, this means becoming more familiar with Macs [total PC girl, thanks], but it was worth it to get online and be able to talk to Kyle more often. Well, one day I was there and there were a bunch of snotty [as in filthy] little boys playing that Pirates of the Caribbean online game, and you know how little boys are--really loud! At first I was kind of ignoring it, but then it was starting to get a little outrageous, and I turned around to see if they were getting yelled at by the librarian or not [no]. Well, long story short they had a friend who was in high school who apologized for their loudness, whatever. Well, his name is Aaron and he was having a problem with his Facebook being blocked by the administration. So he was gonna try to get it straightened out at home. The next day I went back, and he showed up and was like, "Yeah, Facebook is still not working, blah blah blah, I couldn't get on mine, my sister couldn't get on hers, my girlfriend couldn't get on hers, blah blah blah, is there any way you could give me a ride to my house? I have to go home so I can talk to my work and see when they need me again." Sure, whatever. Eventually this lead to a massive Kate vs. Kyle fight cause his feelings were hurt that I took Aaron home, whatever, it's sorted out. But then the next day, as in the third day of this little drama, I'm at the computer, ready to give Kyle a hard time when he finally gets online because supposedly he was going to have to get up early for the cable guy but there was no sign of him. While I'm waiting I go to adult swim and brush up on my mad skillz in Five Minutes to Kill Yourself [I am awesome] and learn how to play Rock Papaer Scissors: Extreme Deathmatch. Well, I'm playing RPSED and there's still no sign of Kyle but I do notice someone standing awfully close to me. Like, too close for comfort, thanks, and I realize it's Aaron, but I'm listening to my music and trying to ignore the world...and it was going great until the game froze and I was like, "Motherfucker, now I'm gonna have to talk to him." So it was small talk, like hey how's it going, my facebook still doesn't work, oh that sucks, whatever. Then he says with a nervous laugh, "I think I'm falling in love with you." My ass, weirdo. Go away now, thanks. Like, you met me two days ago, you know nothing about me, just pretend like this didn't happen and I won't have to kick your ass. Nope. He just kept going and going and going. I was on the verge of screaming, "Piss off, you fuck, I'm a lesbian!" but then I remembered I was in a library, so instead I told him I had to meet my cousin in ten minutes and left. I mean, for all he knows I could be a psycho axe-murderer, but that didn't stop him. I almost threw up on him, no lie, especially when he starts talking about wanting to kiss me. Your name's not Kyle, you don't get none of this, thanks. My skin's still crawling.

Since I don't have a lot of graphics to treat you to, I think I've said enough, especially about weird future stalkers. Sorry for the disappointment. But in just...thirty days [or less, depending on when I get back to school] I'll have a whole bunch of new things for you! ♥ Kate [11:13PM on 31 July 2008]
